Team Fortress 2 - When you're on the hunt for some free first person shooting action, Team Fortress 2 should be at the top of your list. The game launched back in 2007 as part of a bundle that included another first person favorite, Portal, but it stayed strong and relevant with tons of content updates since then. TF2 eventually transitioned to a free download with in-game shop items you can purchase, most notably all the crazy hats. To soak in the Team Fortress 2 goodness, all you need to do is join a game (it's multiplayer only), pick a class, and start shooting!
Counter-Strike Nexon: Zombies - The free to play first person shooter meets MMO Counter-Strike Nexon: Zombies is a powerhouse of PvP and PvE action. It's terrorists vs. counter-terrorists in the classic FPS turned modern, complete with a ton of content from the original Counter-Strike with added weapons, new modes, new maps, and zombie hordes all over the place. Fast paced action? Check. Precise tactical strategy? Double check. Insane online matches with thousands of active players? Yes, yes, and yes!
Dirty Bomb - Ready for a first person shooter in its purest form? Dirty Bomb is a fast-paced team game that shoves you into a warzone with no preparation whatsoever. You won't find auto-aim or health packs around every corner, just pure and unfiltered shooting action. Chaos surrounds you, as do bullets, bombs, and radiation. All that lies between you and certain doom are your reflexes and skills at aiming and shooting. Good luck, soldier. You're going to need it.
Unturned - This 2014 indie release has been a surprise hit among free first person shooter fans. Unturned is a sandbox multiplayer survival game that challenges players to survive a zombie infestation. The most obvious way of doing this is by picking up tons of guns, fortifying your position, and shooting everything in sight. That's a perfectly valid strategy, but what makes Unturned so amazing is that you can play the survival game defensively, staying away from danger and harvesting resources with your friends. Honestly, though, we're more interested in shooting zombies with guns, and that's exactly what we'll be doing!
